Hello

Problem 1

How can I display records of a transaction object sorted
 by employee.surname using expresso dbobjects?

I can sort on any field within the transaction file but in this case
the surname field is a virtual field or a field of the employee look up table
linked by employeeid in the transaction file.

Maybe the design of Expresso dbobjects objects is limiting in this regard.
But this is a common requirement in tradition relation tables.

Problem 2

I also need to know how I can sort multivalued prompts
that contains references to virtual fields of another table
or to other fields within the same dbobject.
eg: I have employeeid and managerid in the same employee object.
The default sort order is surname+firstname.
When other objects prompt for employeeid - no problem -
the order is as per the order set in the dbobject.
However, when prompting for managerid, which also is
in the employee object, the order is not in surname order,
and seems to be in natural order. How can I display
the prompt of the managerid with a virtual field of surname+firstname,
 in sortted order?

Any ideas welcomed.

Well if you authenticate for each XML request then you don't need a cookie
at all... otherwise even in any other system you still need some sort of
token saying you logged in properly if you don't want to authenticate each
and every time.

HTH!
