[Opensource] referencial integrity

RDBMS work with the Entity-Relationship model, wich uses normalized entities
(tables) related by keys (Primary Keys in one table is a Foregin Key in
another).
Referential Integrity means that the relationships are not lost when we made
a modification or delete rows in one table. It ensures that a fokegin key in
one table, exists in
the 'parent' table and may be used for restrict or cascade deleting one
record in a table whith pimary key being used by another(s).

Asunto: [Opensource] referencial integrity

Hello,
My name is Stephen Marron.
I am currently studying at the Institute of Technology, Sligo, Ireland. I am
doing a degree in Web Development and as part of my course i am doing a
subject called Database Technology!
I am having trouble with this subject as i cannot understand the term
referencial integrity.

If at all possible could you define it for me in one or two lines in simple
terms which might make more sense to me.

Many Thanks.
Regards
Stephen Marron
