Expresso 5.2 RC-2 has been released! If you wish to download, you must be
logged into the site for the RC-2 release to appear in the download file
list. Otherwise only the last production release will appear.
This version includes some bug fixes that have been reported from the
community. The most notable are proposed patches for mapping to other
databases and null field value fixes as submitted by: Gabor Nagypal (Thanks
Gabor!! Unit test worked great.)
Other features include:
-More unit tests have been added. We broke the 100 unit test mark.
-Atlantic App Server compatibility fix.
-Cron Bug fix and ... [gasp] full documentation and Examples added in EDG
-JoinedDataObject operations can be created so that options such as Update
or Add might not be desired from the developer. See EDG for more details.
Items left to do before final release:
-Fix DBOtherMap in creation.
-Add submitted patch for HTML mails received today by Eddie Lewis.
-Fix JoinedDataObjects and BLOB fields.
Community Notes:
Francesco - I have NOT had a chance to track down why DBCreate isn't
setting up the OtherDBMap tables yet. That is still not taken care
of. However, your database mapping should now work properly. Let me know
if it isn't.
Questions for all of you lurkers:
-HSQLDB and BLOB fields: Anybody using HSQLDB with BLOBs in your low-level
JDBC work? It appears that HSQL stores the binaries in hex format,
creating a huge memory hog!! I tend to run out of memory at about 120K
BLOB fields. Anybody know a specific HSQLDB API for using REAL BLOB
storage? Samples welcome!
-Firebird and Jaybird driver: Anybody using Firebird with the Jaybird
driver? If so, we really need your database mapping docs for the
documentation set!
I would encourage the community to do some serious tire kicking with the
system at this point. I'm running three production sites based off of the
latest code base, and have been very happy with the stability and performance.
Thanks and we look forward to your feedback!
-Mike
