I ran into the same problem myself. The problem seems to be with the Xerces
that comes bnudled with tomcat... I tried to update it (Xerces) with the
latest version which solved the problem you mention but caused another one
and since I didn`t have much time to put on this my installation has been
put on hold... I'm very interested in finding a solution if there is one!

Subject: [Opensource] Trouble installing Expresso 5.0.3 with Tomcat 4.1.18

Hi all,
I am new to Expresso Framework and I am having trouble installing the
framework with Tomcat. I downloaded expresso5-0-3-bin.war and placed it
in
my Tomcat webapps directory. When I tried to access the page
http://localhost:8080/expresso/expresso/frame.jsp, I get an exception
which
says "Cannot inherit a final class".
I use:
  * OS: RH 8.0
  * JDK: Sun JDK 1.4.0 (I tried it with Sun JDK 1.3.1 too, but without
success)
  * Servlet Engine: Jakarta Tomcat 4.1.18
I am sorry that I do not have the stack trace to post - but the trace
did
not say which class inherited which final class and caused it.

Has anyone come across this problem and resolved it? Which is the latest

Tomcat version that had been tested to work with Expresso? I searched
the
JCoporate site, this list and the internet and couldnt find an answer.

TIA,
Binil

PS: I tried Expresso Complete and it worked fine on my machine. But I
would
like to have Expresso on Tomcat 4.1.18.
