Indeed due to the excitement about JSF I found it very interesting that
the largest major players have adopted Struts. Oracle, Bea, and IBM
Webshere now have a graphical front end to Struts (albeit in beta).
Indeed it would seem Struts has become the MVC standand according to the
industry.
According to Craig you can use JSF now with your Struts applications
without having to change your code. He said that gives the developer
time to convert his/her applications to use JSF. He also reminded me
about the The Struts-Faces Integration Library. He surmised that you'd
want to have your applications JSF based within a year or be left
behind. I agree by the interest I saw at J1. The JSF session by the way
was totally full with several disappointed folks that didn't get in to
hear it.
Presently Java is being used primarily by technologists and enterprise
architects. Another primary message at J1 is that with J2EE a mature
technology - corporate developers are adopting Java increasingly. This
will grow Java from 3 million to 10-13 million developers over the next
few years. However to do this Java needs to be easier to use - so to
make Java easier corporate developers will be adopting frameworks,
graphical wizards, and graphical IDE integration.
I think this provides a clear message that to attract new Java
developers where we need focus Expresso enhancements!
