No, I don't follow the document.  Perhaps it
is time to update that.  I'd be willing to write
something up or at least to help with that.

I use the default Expresso layout with the Tomcat
plugin for Eclipse.  As such, you can run the same
setup in Eclipse or as a standalone process.
