You shouldn't have to right now.  The only case would be where you need to 
get something into the appropriate branch, but then you check out a 
different 'branch' not a different module.  so:
cvs co -r expresso-4-1

SHOULD be the correct command if you specifically want a critical bug fix 
to go into the 4.1 release. [Off the top of my head though without trying 
it ;) ]
