[Opensource] can we get the user's groups into the Session object?

I am often querying the database for the user's permission groups. I think
it would be reasonable to have these in the Session object, but the proper
place for this would be in Login process and I don't necessarily want to
make custom modifications to it.

Can we make this change to the core?
