If you are enabled for access, it is the download link on the Project
Page for eContent. If you are not enabled for access you will not see
the downloads.
While eContent is free to universities and many non-profits, it is not
freely downloaded by everyone. Like Expresso, eContent is available
with full source code and it shares a collaborative focus - but unlike
Expresso it is available at a fee. While it would be great to offer
these products free, the reality is these sales pay for the costs of
running this site. So if you buy it you can download it.
In the last year we have been making some changes. So what you may not
know is now much of the license fee goes to the developers that work
hard on a particular project; and the remainder in turn pays for the
expenses of running this site. Jcorporate has evolved to become a
consortium of independent developers globally. Any developer globally
can join a project to contribute and earn, even customers' developers -
becoming a profit sharing member based on contributions and services.
[If you want more information on this choose Customers from the header
of the site > Developers and explore]
Which brings me to a question for this list and an invitation to present
some ideas. The recession has effected just about every company. The
company Vignette, for example, had a reduction in software revenues of
75% last year. That's staggering. While the sluggish economy has further
strengthened open source,[good news] it has affected any product with a
price tag. Our sales have also slumped. So we'd like to be creative on
the pricing to stimulate these projects communities despite the sluggish
economy.
Contributor Discounts
------------------------
One idea we'll be putting into place are substantial discounts for
current contributors on any project here - and thus reward users for
their existing community involvement. What are your ideas for what you'd
like to see?
Even if you are not an existing contributor, we'll offer discounts for
significant proposed enhancements to that project.
Auctions
-----------
What do you think of periodic auctioning of software licenses? i.e.
eBay. Let you have a chance of setting your own price based on your
current budgets. Would you/ or your company participate? How often would
you like to see auctions?
Expresso Powered by Sites Discounts
------------------------------------
Another idea is offering a 20% discount to companys' who have a
production Expresso implementation.
University Research Programs
----------------------------
All commercial Jcorporate products are free.
These are just a couple of the ideas I have. I look forward to hearing
of your ideas. Lets see where we can go with this.....
As you probably know, like our open source projects eForum, and ePoll -
eContent, eFaq and eHelpdesk are add-ons that add collaborative
application user functionality. In other words they are built on
Expresso to provide certain user functions. They help a site build and
strengthen community and offer productivity enhancements. They have been
instrumental in our our community building on Jcorporate's site - day in
day out.
