[Opensource] Tomcat 4.1 logging

Hey All,

Any chance anybody out there has delved into the low level guts of 
Tomcat?  Specifically, what I'm looking at is how to get Tomcat to print 
out Console output at startup.

Currrently:
-All System.out/System.err during startup is written to the log file.
-All log4j console output during startup is written to the log file.

After initial startup, then log4j console output writes correctly to the 
screen.  However, this behavior could SERIOUSLY confuse newbies that have a 
configuration problem.

So any ideas at getting console output during startup for Catalina?
